Hiroshi Abe is a Counseling Expert of AESJ, counseling on the matters of SMiRT / JASMiRT and Fukushima Daiichi decommissioning Committee. From 1994 at NUPEC (Nuclear Power Engineering Corporation) and JNES (Japan Nuclear Energy Safety Organization), he headed seismic safety research, especially seismic verification and fragility tests on NPP components such as reactor containment vessel, piping, and electrical panel etc., collaborating with US NRC. From 2007 at JNES and NRAJ, he engaged in international affairs of seismic area, contributing to several IAEA seismic safety guides, and promoting IAEA international seismic safety program (ISSC-EBP) resulting in relevant IAEA safety documents on external events, by organizing international academia, regulation and industry experts. In 2017, he moved to AESJ. Prior to joining the NUPEC, he worked 24 years at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries on Instrument & Control and seismic design of PWRs, after receiving Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from Kyoto University.
