
Minkyu Kim is the Director of the Structural and Seismic Safety Research Division at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI). He has about 30 years of experience in structural analysis and the safety assessment of nuclear power plants and related facilities, with particular expertise in seismic safety, tsunami safety, seismic isolation, and the assessment of external events.
Dr. Kim currently serves as Chairman of the Seismic Capacity Evaluation Committee of the Earthquake Engineering Society of Korea, Head of the Nuclear Power Plant Construction and Operation Technology Division of the Korean Nuclear Society, Chairman of the Nuclear Structural and Seismic Committee of the Korean Society of Civil Engineers, and a member of the Structural Expert Committee for the Korea Electric Power Industry Code (KEPIC).
At the international level, he has been serving as Chairman of the OECD/NEA Working Group on External Events (WGEV) since 2022. He is also the Task Leader for the development of an IAEA TECDOC on the combination of external hazards and a committee member of the External Event Notification System (EENS) under the IAEA External Events Safety Section (EESS).
